The Cristo Rei (Christ the King) status stands on the south side of the Tejo River overlooking Lisbon. A visit to the statue offers breathtaking views of the city, the iconic Ponte 25 de Abril bridge and the coast and mountains beyond.
It costs approx 5 euro to take the elevator up to the viewing patform which stands 80m high. As the statue is built on a hill overlooking the river the view from the bottom and top of the statue are well worth a visit.
The chapel of Nossa Senhora da Paz is located at the bottom of the status and is free to enter.
There are 2 main ways to get to Cristo Rei from Lisbon, and both take approx one hour. Fist option is to take a Ferry to Cacilhas and then the 101 bus. The second option is to take a train over the Ponte 25 de Abril bridge to Pragal station, and the the tram to nearby Almada.
